Training

As I sit and create our training program for dementia it is fun to look back at my notes as I learned about this group of symptoms. Things that are second nature to me now were so very new. One thing I remember learning about is the difference between the left and right brain.  The functions they each do and how they work together. Simply put – language is stored on the left and rhythm is stored on the right. We have all probably seen someone with Alzheimer’s who no longer speaks but they hear music and start to sing. Somehow music reconnects the two sides of the brain and the words come back. It is absolutely fascinating to watch.

Meet Henry, who suffered from dementia for a decade and barely said a word to anyone—until Music & Memory set up an iPod program at his nursing home. The program can be found at https://musicandmemory.org/

We will be using music at The Lamoine to help reach those with dementia tap into their memories.

Please call us at 309-575-3018 for a tour. We are currently showing and renting apartments.

I hope you all have a safe weekend!
